Recently, a friend of mine asked me why I always post song lyrics as my Facebook updates. If I’m honest, I was kind of flabbergasted. I know I do post the odd song lyric or two, but all my stautus updates? NEVER. So, imagine my horror when after a quick trawl through my status updates, my friend proves herself true.
That got me thinking. Why do I always use song lyrics for my status updates? It took me a while to work out these songs were ones that had been going round in my head that day, and even longer to work out why.
Sometimes, I realised, that I get confused. So confused, in fact, that I actually have no idea what I’m thinking about. Then suddenly, I’ll hear song. On the radio, on my iPod, occasionally I’ll catch a couple of bars that someone’s singing under their breath. And just those couple of bars, will make such perfect sense to me, and will sum at my emotions so completely at that moment in time, that that song will stay stuck in my head all day.
So next time you read one of my infamous song lyrics status update, don’t dismiss them as some lazy persons who couldn’t be bothered to write something themselves – take the time to read a little deeper and try to work out what I’m feeling.
